Thank you for celebrating Volunteers' Week with us!

Our Volunteers’ Week Fair this month was a great success! More than 100 people came to The Arts Centre, Hounslow on Tuesday 5th June to find out about some of the ways they could volunteer in the borough, as well as meet existing volunteers and even try their hand at micro-volunteering.

Volunteers from Citizens Advice Hounslow, Disability Network Hounslow, Healthwatch Hounslow, Tamil Community Centre, The Conservation Volunteers and the Victoria & Albert Museum were also recognised in an award ceremony, some of them celebrating 30 years of volunteering! The Worshipful, The Mayor of the London Borough of Hounslow, Councillor Samia Chaudhary presented the certificates and spoke with volunteers and organisations.

Here are a few quotes from the day, which we feel sum up volunteering rather well:

"People don't always know that what they're doing is volunteering, and lots of people don't consider themselves volunteers. Volunteering can be very different from what you imagine it is." London Borough of Hounslow Community Partnership Unit

"Volunteering doesn't have to include anything new. It's can be as little as making a cup of tea for someone who would otherwise feel really isolated." Alzheimer’s Society

"I volunteer for the experience. It's very rewarding for me and of course it looks great on a CV." Healthwatch Hounslow Volunteer

"If I could sum up volunteering in one word, I'd say 'freedom'. Volunteering gives me time away from the 9 to 5, means I'm not trapped in the same four walls all the time." The Conservation Volunteersvolunteer

If you weren’t able to make the fair, there’s still plenty of chances to get involved. You can search for opportunities online via our database here, or if you’re not sure where to start, why not come along to our drop-in where you can talk with us face-to-face for free? You are also welcome to phone us or email us, using the details on the contact us page.

We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who came, including the 22 organisations who held stalls on the day. We heard some fantastic stories of volunteering and the community spirit in the borough, and we hope you found out more about some of the volunteering roles available.

A full list of the organisations who were present on the day is included below, and thank you to all our partners and supporters for their continued dedication to volunteering in Hounslow.
